Resort of the Month: Impressions by Secrets Isla Mujeres

In January 2024, I had the pleasure of visiting one of the Caribbean’s most luxurious hidden gems: Impressions by Secrets Isla Mujeres. Nestled off the coast of Cancun, this adults-only, all-inclusive boutique resort is redefining what it means to experience a romantic escape—and it’s quickly becoming a favorite for destination weddings, honeymoons, and upscale couples’ retreats.

Impressions by Secrets Isla Mujeres is a VIBE. To get here, you land in Cancun, but you take a private catamaran to Isla Mujeres. As you get closer, you’ll see the staff eagerly awaiting your arrival, waving to you with beautiful smiles and a welcome drink (definitely giving The White Lotus, lol). The resort is elevated, so when you walk to the resort from the pier, you have to climb a lot of stairs. When you get to check in, unlike larger resorts, you’ll notice that the resort is a lot less busy, so your check in process isn’t chaotic and a lot more personable. Impressions offers a more boutique experience- just 125 suites, with butler service and ocean or island views.

Dining is on a whole ‘nother level. With chef-crafted menus, à la carte restaurants, and room service that’s actually worth indulging in. My favorites were the rooftop cocktails, the wellness-focused breakfast, and the private dining options available through your butler.

The rooms are absolutely gorgeous.

When it comes to views, the oceanfront rooms did not disappoint. The Junior Suite Oceanfront room I stayed in offered breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea, creating the perfect backdrop for relaxation. The suite featured:

A private balcony with a plush hammock, perfect for morning coffee or sunset lounging

An outdoor jacuzzi tub that quickly became my favorite spot for unwinding under the stars

A sleek, modern design with neutral tones and luxe touches throughout

A spacious bathroom with dual vanities, a rainfall shower, and high-end amenities

Consider having your destination wedding at Impressions by Secrets Isla Mujeres. This resort has the most beautiful wedding venue, the Temple. It can accommodate up to 180 guests, and is ideal for both intimate and grand wedding celebrations. This venue is versatile and can also seamlessly be transformed into your reception venue during the cocktail hour.

Key tips to remember:

• Impressions by Secrets Isla Mujeres is an adults only (18+) resort. Sorry, no kids allowed.
• Plan early. With limited rooms, this amazing resort books fast, especially for weddings and buyouts.
• When booking your flights, consider that you have to take a catamaran to and from Isla Mujeres. The catamaran trip is about 45 minutes each way, and the ferry terminal in Puerto Juarez is about 30-45 minutes away from the airport.
